WBCR DAILY HEADLINES 9.22.16

In world news, the annual General Assembly, or the annual meeting of foreign nations, at the United Nations here in New York City produced two substantive foreign policy agendas this week. First, the UN signed and ratified the New York Declaration, a 22-page non-binding document that provides a two-year timeline of the equal apportionment of refugees among all nations; and second, the UN also received commitments from over 20 more nations to fully comply with the Paris climate agreement, which was first agreed upon in 2015.

In national news, a state of emergency has been declared in Charlotte, North Carolina, after two nights of violent protests thus far over the fatal police shooting of 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott; and a new report says that immigrants coming to the United States do not take American jobs, which disproves a claim repeatedly made by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

In local news, the investigation continues into the bombings in New York and New Jersey on Saturday, September 17, as new revelations about the suspect are made.

And in sports, the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays with a final score of 11-5 last night, but the two teams will have a second consecutive matchup at 7:10 PM tonight.
