In national news, the federal government provides remedial assistance to Florida for combating the Zika virus outbreak, but with overall funding running out pretty soon, it might be too little, too late; and a former health and human services official in Michigan acknowledges intentional neglect and mishandling of the investigation into the water crisis in Flint, but she accepts a plea deal to avoid felony charges.
In local news, it’s back to school for faculty members at LIU-Brooklyn after a 12-day absence due to an expired contract that was just extended to May 31, 2017.
And in sports, the NFL will now spend another $100 million for further research on head trauma, as well as new technology used in the football field to alleviate, if not prevent, more serious head injuries.
