In world news, the Syrian government held parliamentary elections yesterday, despite objections from the United States and its allies; and lawmakers in the US Senate are threatening to withhold funding from the United Nations as the organization struggles to combat sexual abuse within its’ own ranks.
In national news, the CDC has now confirmed that the Zika virus directly causes birth defects in infants born to infected women; and the Senate Energy Committee finally passes an energy bill that will soon be up for debate in the full Senate floor.
In local news, two close associates of Mayor Bill de Blasio are intertwined in a corruption investigation; and a flophouse operator and his wife are arrested in Brooklyn for charges of money laundering, grand larceny, and Medicaid fraud.
And finally, all CUNY students are invited to attend the 2016 CUNY Big Apple Job Fair next Friday, April 22, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.
