Juice WRLD Cause Of Death Revealed To Be An “Accidental Overdose”

By Nicholas Williams

The cause of death for rap star, Jarad Anthony Higgins, better known by his stage name Juice Wrld, was revealed to be an accidental overdose of Oxycodone and Codeine, according to a report by officials last Thursday.

The Chicago cook county medical examiner concluded that he died from the toxic levels of the drugs. Promethazine and Naloxone were also found to be present in the rapper’s body.

Alicia Leon, Higgins’ girlfriend, told police that he had been struggling with an oxycodone addiction for the last year. She also told authorities at Midway Airport that Higgins’ “let out a gasp and collapsed to the ground” as FBI agents searched his bags, according to TMZ.

On December 8, the 21-year-old rapper reportedly took a flight from California to his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. First reported by TMZ, Higgins was allegedly walking through Chicago Midway International Airport when FBI agents stopped and searched his luggage, as they suspected he was carrying contraband. Higgins suffered a seizure and was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police confiscated 41 bags of marijuana, six bottles of codeine cough syrup, two 9mm pistols, a .40 caliber pistol, a high capacity ammunition magazine, and metal-piercing bullets from Higgins’ luggage.

Higgins’ ex-girlfriend Alexia Smith discussed his drug addiction in an interview with the Daily Mail. Smith revealed that Higgins would take up to three oxycodone pills a day.

“Even when he had every reason to be happy, he still wasn’t and obviously that’s mental illness,” Smith said. “If you have family, girlfriend, money, you have the job that you want but you’re still unhappy at that point, your brain isn’t working properly and you need professional help.”

After the cause of death was released, Higgins’ family issued a statement on his social media accounts:

“From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank each and every one of you for your undivided adoration and love for Juice,” the statement opens. “You guys meant the entire world to Juice and by listening to his music, watching his videos and sharing your stories about him, you are keeping his memory alive forever.”

“Juice made a profound impact on the world in such a short period of time. He was a gentle soul, whose creativity knew no bounds, an exceptional human being, and artist who loved and cared for his fans above everything else,” wrote Interscope Records via Twitter.

Fellow rap star Eminem dedicated his latest album, “Music To Be Murdered By” to Higgins. Eminem released a song in his album, “Godzilla”, which featured Higgins on the track.

Higgins’ rap career took off in 2018 after he released his hit song, “Lucid Dreams,” which hit number 2 on Billboard’s singles chart. His most recent album, “Death Race for Love” was released on March 8, 2019.

The young rapper had turned 21 on December 2, six days before his death.
