Halloween Music And Fashion Festival Brings Together Students And Small Businesses

By Jasmine Peralta and Austin Santiago

200 students, alumni, artists, and performers attended the Halloween Music and Fashion Festival in SUBO on Thursday to show off their talents in dancing, singing, and design.

“I’m excited right now, this is the first event I’m attending at the school and I’m excited to see how it comes out,” said Richie LeBron, team coordinator and member of the Marketing Society Club.

The Fashion Marketing Club and the Marketing Society Club were two of the major organizers of the event. The International Business Association (IBA) were responsible for setting up the event. For weeks they distributed posters around campus. They said that merging Brooklyn College students and local small businesses was one of the main objectives in producing the fashion show.

“We are sponsoring small fashion companies that may be trying to get some exposure. We have students from Brooklyn College and other CUNY schools showcasing their clothing,” said Andrew Choi, member of both the Fashion Marketing and Marketing Society Club.

One of the fashion companies featured in the event was Rue 107, which is a plus-sized clothing line. An audience favorite was the sportswear clothing line introduced by a Haitian-American designer called “Frekan.”

“I like it, it’s cute,” said Brooklyn College students, Liyse Cothren-Cox and Victoria Pope on the “Frekan” clothing line.

The event featured a performance by international singer, Teemanay, who performed four of his songs. Brooklyn College alumnus, art professor, and artist Oriel Ceballos gave a powerful speech to the audience about leaving a legacy and finding a purpose in life.

WBCR was able to catch up with Ceballos for an exclusive interview after his speech on his love for art:

“It’s a part of my style, I moved into art because I found it to be a very quick way for me to say what I have to say without writing a 250 page excerpt,” he said. “I’m able to just express, I create based on how I feel.”

This is the first showcase since the Fashion Marketing Club’s year long hiatus. The club was brought back in honor of assistant marketing professor and IBA advisor, Ngoc (Cindy) Pham.

“We want people to be active in Brooklyn College events, and we’re just trying to bring events that people are really interested in,” said Choi.

While this was one the first Fashion Marketing Club events this year, they are planning to create more interactive events to engage with students on campus. They are also thinking of creating digital segments for their social media that would feature students on campus like “Outfit of the Day.”
