EXCLUSIVE: “The Last Days Of Iscariot” BC Cast Discusses Upcoming Production
By Telvin Poledore
This week, the Brooklyn College theater department is set to open its final production of the semester, “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” by Stephen Adly Guirgis.
“Questioning, relevant, and life-changing” are some of the words that the cast used to describe the production.
“The play is a courtroom-drama taking place in purgatory between heaven and hell and it will be revisiting the tall tale of Judas Iscariot and the trial of Jesus Christ,” said Ryan Bannon, who plays Judas.
The play will take place in the college’s smaller New Workshop Theater, which means that the audience will be sitting closely around a stage making the experience more intimate. This also allows the play to have direct interaction with the audience, which makes it different from all the other Fall 2019 productions.
“It’s that kind of play. It doesn’t let you sit on your loins, as Shakesphere might say,” said Raelillie Mizrachi, who plays Fabiana Aziza Cunningham, a lawyer.
“These are characters, who in the Bible, have very little written about them and historically have very little written about them. But the playwright has fleshed out these characters and given them something very important and meaningful to say about how, what they, what part they played in the death of Christ,” said the director of the production, Matthew Wiliams.
“The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” is set to run from Friday, December 6 through Wednesday, December 11 in the New Workshop Theater at BC. For more information on showtimes visit BrooklynCollegePresents.org or contact the box office at 718-951-4500.
