Digital Careers Night Unites Digital Talent From Sony And Disney
Digital designers spoke to students about their struggles and passions in the field of multimedia on Thursday at a Brooklyn College career panel in SUBO.
The designers took the opportunity to describe the leading purpose of what it took to create this form of multimedia for the audiences.
“You have this idea to grab something and make something. Your ideas, visuals and your messages it has to connect to the larger purpose of the business,” said Michael McGetrick the founder/co-President of Spark 451 and former Disney motion graphics employee.
Digital designing intels produce multimedia graphic designs that can be viewed electronically on most digital platforms.
The panel included alumnus Tyquane Wright, who is now the senior Look Development Technical Director at Sony Pictures Imageworks, as well as other guests. Wright worked on designs that went into films such as “Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse,” “G-Force” and even the “Hotel Transylvania” movie franchise. Besides just designing the visual effects for films, he makes it his job to try and balance his personal interests with whichever project he’s working on at the moment. This insures that the project, no matter how stressful or long it may be, always manages to remain exciting or memorable.
“I like to dance, so I wanted to incorporate what I learned into my life experiences,” said Tyquane Wright.
The panelists went on to express that working as digital designers meant learning from those around you, communicating and understanding the clients, and building relationships.
“Those relationships as an artist, those relationships are with the people that you meet in school. And as I’ve gone through my career I’ve seen that,” said director and producer Richard O’Connor. “So the point is, be a good person.”
