BC Women’s Basketball Team Drops The Ball In Scrimmage Game

The Brooklyn College Women’s Basketball Team was defeated by the Vassar College Brewers last Saturday afternoon in a scrimmage game.
The Bulldogs lost 109-62 in a total of 60 minutes of play. It was not a good showing for the Bulldogs in their first live-action team game of the season. They were playing a qualified opponent, who was 21-7 last year in the Liberty Conference.
The scrimmage was set up with four periods of 10 minutes being played and with an added extra 20-minute period in the end.
With many new faces added to the mix, they struggled to communicate on both sides of the floor. On defense, the Bulldogs struggled in playing an effective 2-3 zone. They were leaving the corners open, which led to an opening for three-pointers. Eventually, Coach Alex Lang changed from a defensive scheme to man-to-man.
On offense, miscommunications led to constant turnovers. Passes were off the mark constantly. Eventually, there was very little passing as the offense became stagnant. They had no flow with whoever dribbles the ball down the court. There were many possessions with poor shot selections by the Bulldogs. Lang called early timeouts multiple times to get his team in order.
The Bulldogs were beaten on the rebounding end as they showed little effort in trying to grab offensive rebounds for their team. Lang was vocal from the bench as he shouted at his players to be “more aggressive” the entire game.
BC forward Chanel Jemmott and guard Taylor George didn’t play their best games, but played well. The juniors both led the team on 10 point runs to bring the team back within two points in the second and fourth period. Taylor George was able to be a threat from three and driving inside. Jemmott was able to bully the Brewers’ bigs for the entire game, but would soon be doubled and forced into taking tough shots.
