WBCR NEWS 2.8.17

In world news, an opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin was found guilty of embezzlement, and he was suspended from having political power for five years.

In national news, by an unprecedented Senate vote of 51-50, Betsy DeVos was finally confirmed as President Trump’s Education Secretary, as Vice President Mike Pence became the very first official in his position to cast a tie-breaking vote in an intense and deadlocked cabinet confirmation proceeding.

In local news, the U.S. Defense Department considers leasing a space in New York’s Trump Tower.

And finally, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont will be a guest speaker at Brooklyn College’s 2017 Commencement ceremony.

*On a personal note, this is my very first WBCR News program on the airwaves of Brooklyn College Radio, and so far, I’m excited.
